Mold Growth

Water is the single most important factor for mold growth. Mold can be found almost anywhere as long as moisture and oxygen are present. When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings or on building materials mold growth will often occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed.

Most household microorganisms (fungi, bacteria) are attracted to celluloid materials such as cardboard, carpet, ceiling materials, drywall, fabric, insulation, paper products, plywood, sheetrock, tiles, wallpaper and wood. When performing mold restoration, AVB Mold uses non-cellulous materials such as dense board, Armor Plustm, cement board and fiberglass to prevent mold from recurring.

Potential sources for excess moisture or water in buildings:

  • Roof Leaks
  • Floods
  • Plumbing Leaks
  • Condensation
  • Subterranean Water
  • Irrigation Overspray
  • Construction Defects (windows, flashings, bathrooms)
  • Humidity
  • Lack of Ventilation
  • Excess Humidity
